NAUSET NEWCOMERS GENERAL MEETING – September 12, 2007

President Walt Ostapchuk called the meeting to order at 9:45 AM welcoming everyone back for the new season with some of his usual humor.  The attendance was at least 310 members. As this is the 30th anniversary Walt also gave a quick history of the Nauset Newcomers.  This is available on the website, but Walt added interesting details of what life was like in 1977.  He reported that over $7500 had been donated to charities and there is still some being arranged, thus making NN donations for last year at $9,000.  This money is raised primarily from the raffle.

Due to the amount of material to cover at this first meeting, there was no short or long program.  The raffle will be at the end of the meeting.

Walt introduced last year’s president, Eileen Bergquist and thanked her for the great job she did.  He also thanked all of last year’s board.  He introduced Lee Chirgwin who reported on the work done over the summer on a new brochure and explained that it was being mailed to all newly registered voters in Brewster, Eastham, Orleans and Wellfleet (excluding only the young, first time voters).  They are also in contact with realtors and have had good reception from the local media for listing our meetings.

Walt attended the safety issues of the exits and the info on where to turn to learn if a meeting is cancelled due to bad weather.

He introduced the new secretary, Robin Hubbard and the new treasurer, Jim Demaree.

Minutes of the May meeting were approved.  The treasurer reported $10,402.57 on hand at the end of August.  These are available at Treasurer's Report.
